THE GOOD OLD MAN

“O Bom Velho” (in english, “The Good Old Man”), is part of a series of illustrations that explore the ethnography and legends of Portugal, reminiscent of a culture that was replaced, first by Islam, and later by Christianity, but retaining some of its aspects and features in the collective popular memory of the Portuguese people. “The Good Old Man” is a distant echo of pagan traditions of Old, similar to the slavic “Old Man Frost” or the germanic “Christmas Man”.
